"My name is
Scott
Buwalda, and I am the founder of Hybrid Audio Technologies.
Hybrid Audio Technologies has been
meticulously developing an incredible line of car audio speakers
since July 2005. Our first offering, named the Legatia™ series,
was developed to bring a truly high-end choice to car audiophiles.
The name Legatia is medieval Latin for "legacy"; Legatia is named after
my mom, Joyce Buwalda, who passed in June 2006.
On April 1, 2006,
we introduced our Legatia L3 wide-bandwidth 3” cone midrange driver, and a few
months later, our incredible, compact Legatia L1 20mm soft-dome tweeter was released.
After nearly two full years of
spending an inordinate amount of time listening to, testing, and refining our
Legatia speakers in a variety of configurations and settings, the entire
Legatia product line is now available for purchase. This includes
the Legatia L1V2 (newly released iteration of our original Legatia L1
tweeter), Legatia L3 midrange, Legatia L4 midrange, Legatia L6 midbass,
and Legatia L8 midbass/subwoofer, and the Legatia L2x vertically
biamplified crossover.
To augment the incredible Legatia line, we launched the Clarus™ series
in 2008, a complete high-end
offering of two-way component systems with passive crossovers, grilles,
hardware, and tweeter mounting options at a cost-effective price.
Clarus takes many of the same design concepts as Legatia, and has
already won numerous third-party awards and media testing accolades.
In 2010, Hybrid Audio Technologies entered the entry-level market with
our fantastic Imagine™ series. In its short tenure on the market,
third-party testers, enthusiasts, and dealers have overwhelmingly
reported that the Imagine coaxial and convertible component sets easily
out-perform competitor's systems costing double in price.
All the while we were building Legatia, Clarus, and Imagine, we have
been meticulously developing the world's finest speakers known
collectively as the Legatia Special Edition™ and Legatia Pro™ series,
starting off with our incredible Legatia L1 Pro
tweeter, a low-resonance, high-end fine silk dome tweeter, now available
in both brushed aluminum and black anodized finishes. Other
projects in the Special Edition series include the world's finest car
audio radiator ring tweeter, the Legatia L1 Pro SE, as well as
development of a Legatia L6 Special Edition, and permanent production of
the famed radiator ring, the Legatia L1 Pro RR, both available in 2010. We are
also actively working on the Legatia L3 Pro midrange and Legatia L6 Pro
midbass to be available late 2010, or early/mid 2011. To be kept in the loop regarding release dates of the Pro
series midrange and midbass, please

us.
Even despite our short tenure as a
speaker manufacturer, every speaker we produce has been proven in the
competition circles, winning numerous world championships to date.
In fact, at the 2010 IASCA®
North American Championships, Hybrid Audio-equipped vehicles won more Championships than every other front-stage speaker manufacturer
combined. For five years running, that kind of domination is no fluke; it's a
testament to the quality of the product. Hybrid Audio is world
championship car audio, and it's available to you, right now.
With
all of our available designs, we can accommodate virtually any
imaginable 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way
component system with Legatia,
Clarus, Imagine, or a combination thereof.
Since all of our speakers can be purchased separately, you can assemble
a set that meets your needs quite easily. We are the only car
audio manufacturer that we're aware of that readily sells its speakers
ala carte, without making you purchase the item you need bundled
in a set with other components you might otherwise not need. Also, we offer a service
no other speaker manufacturer provides at the price level of
Legatia, and that is to hand-match Thiele/Small parameters for sets of
speakers; yes, you can get a completely hand-matched set of speakers for
about 1/5 of the other guys matched-set speakers!
On to the 'nuts and bolts' of my letter. I wanted to
take a moment and share with you exactly what it takes to build
newly-designed speakers. Ever wonder how some manufacturers can turn new product
lines over in a matter of weeks or a few short months? Ever notice a distinct
similarity between different brands of speakers: speakers using the same exact
frames, magnets and T-yokes, cones, dust caps, and the only difference being the
logo on the magnet and a different colored shipping carton? Ever wonder how a
company can have a “prototype” in their demo car, and then announce production
just six weeks later? It’s because many of these drivers incorporate most, or
all of an existing design; this is called “re-badging.” Re-badging is when a
build-house/manufacturer will pull an existing design
off the shelf, dust it off, maybe change a small parameter or two, slap a decal
on it, or put a logo on the dustcap, put it into their client’s own specially
designed carton, and ship it. The vast majority of car audio speakers today
are re-badged versions of each other. Very few companies offer only new
designs; Hybrid Audio is one such company.
To build a speaker
'from the ground up' takes a considerable amount of time to do properly. Why has it taken
almost two years to develop the
Legatia line-up of speakers, and every other design we have gone to production
with? It's because all of our designs are fresh, and have no equal in the world. We have tested and
re-tested all of our designs in real life car environments, and have put them
against the very best in organized sound quality competition, and have won
national- and international titles all around the world for the past several
years in MECA, EMMA,
USACi, and IASCA. Months, and in many cases years are spent listening to,
testing, evaluating, and refining our speakers before we call them good enough
to be Hybrid Audio Technologies products. When you buy a Hybrid product, you’ll find it to be not only
unique to the many brands of speakers available, but also exceed performance of
those systems costing significantly more money. Why are Hybrid Audio
Technologies products better?
It’s simple: they were made specifically for car audio use, by car audiophiles
and veteran speaker designers. And it doesn't hurt having the lead speaker
engineer being a multiple Expert world champion, either. We know what works in the car
audio environment. Legatia™ and other Hybrid
Audio designs are not re-formulated home audio speakers. Read
this document, our L3 user's manual, for more
details on why our designs are best suited for car audio use.
Now that we have
established what it takes to create a fresh design, and why Hybrid products are
true car audio performers, I wanted to implore you to try
our speakers. We are a very small company, built on
old-fashioned customer service and a solid product offering; the products we
sell put a priority on performance.
I hope I have made a case for your use of Hybrid Audio Technologies products.
I know it's often difficult to buy a product that you might not be able to hear
first hand, but take my word that each of my designs are excellent in every way,
and you won't be disappointed with any of Hybrid Audio speakers if they're
properly installed. We have competition results to back up all of our
designs, and rave reviews on the product around the world. So when can I
be honored to have you as a Hybrid Audio Technologies client?"
Best Regards,

Scott Buwalda
